Scottish Culture - 18th Century Scottish appearal

Expert: Thomas H McIntyre - 9/20/2008

Question
What is a 18th century Scotland drape? Is it drapes that you put up to a window or does it have to do with the clothing that the men or women wore?

Answer
Traditionally a Scottish Drape would be an act of a groom to welcome a bride into his family by draping his clan's tartan over her shoulders soon after they had exchanged vows.  Somehow some enterprising salesmen have stretched the idea into wallpaper boarders or on as you describe some sort of window covering. Really a rather stuck up idea wouldn't you say!
 Thanks for the question Jasmine.
