there are many different ways to do one. let me tell you about mine. i had specific recipe's i wanted to put into an album because they came from my 88 yr. old hungarian grandma.
i went to her house every week for 12 weeks and she would cook one of her specialities. i would take the recipe, take pics of the cooked dish and took pics of her in the kitchen. when i had all the recipe's i wanted done, i found an album that fit my needs--a 5x7 is usually big enough. i did a 2 page layout of each recipe. on one page is the typed recipe along with embellishments. there are a lot of "food" embellishments now-especially stickers. the other page has the pictures i took along with matching embellishments. the 2 pages do match each other.
i also included a note on the bottom of each recipe with "extra's" from my grandma. such as " use milk instead of heavy cream or ham instead of bacon"
On the last page, i enlarged a copy of a recipe that was in my grandmothers own handwriting. i used that as my background paper and i put a small picture of my grandma in her kitchen. below that i put a note explaining why i decided to make this album.
my title page is an old hungarian dinner prayer that i printed in both hungarian and english. its the prayer that my grandma would say before each meal.
If you dont have such personal recipe's like above, you can still make a recipe book of your own personal fav's. make sure to add lots of pics--the finished product is best, along with any notes you have.
i grouped my foods together --such as 3 pages of soups, then 2 of salads, then the main dishes then desserts. however, i did not separate them with any type of tabs or anything. my book was too small for that.
some people group their recipes together by color. such as all red pages are soups, all blue pages are main dishes, etc. then they include this information on the front page.
I hope this helps, but if you have any specific questions, please contact me back
