Subject: Shark Suits

Question
I am interested in purchasing a protective suit.  I snorkle and windsurf in Fla in an area frequented by numerous sharks.  What would work best for me and where can I purchase.  I can find articles on suits but not purchase info. Thank you

Answer
Hi Donald

I wouldn't recommend wearing a protective (chain mail) shark suit while snorkeling or windsurfing since the suits weigh around 40 pounds and it would be almost impossible to perform these activities while wearing one.  I would try Googling "chain mail suits" or "protective shark suits" and see what you can find.  I have never had the opportunity to purchase one personally so I can't give you any first hand information on where to get them.  They are not available through any of my suppliers.  If you do find them, expect to pay several thousand dollars for one!!

Donald, I know this isn't exactly what you hoped to hear but I would hate to see you spend all that money and then find that you couldn't use the suit for what you have in mind.

Sincerely,
Mike Giles
