Security & Fire Protection Systems - DSC 2550 Stand-by battery

Expert: Dave Neuweiler - 11/3/2009

Question
I have a DSC 2550 system that was previously installed in the home that I bought, it is not hooked up to the phone line but I am about to connect it for monitoring. About 6 months ago the trouble light came on. About a month ago I located the manual. The trouble code was #1, the standby battery. I read a previous question here about replacing the battery. I ordered a new battery and replaced the old battery but my trouble code #1 has not been cleared. Any insight on this?
Thanks.

Answer
Hello Jeff, and thanks for your question.

The low battery trouble should clear automatically with a new, good battery...

So, make sure the connectors for the battery leads are clean and tight... and that they're connected red to positive, and black to negative. Without a meter, there's nothing else you can do.

The possibility of getting a bad battery is pretty remote if you ordered it from an online vendor. But if you went through e-Bay, you never know.

You may need a technician with a meter to test the battery to see if it's good or bad.

Best Regards,

Dave
