Security & Fire Protection Systems - trouble/falsing smokes

Expert: Dave Neuweiler - 6/18/2009

Question
im working on a DSC power 832. there are 7 smokes and 1 heat. i have checked my wire, power, resistance and have cleaned all my smokes. the system continues to go into trouble then into alarm. they are all hardwired into the system on a power module. zone 16 is where they are on the system. i do not have the model type but the ones in the room have a piezo and another tech replaced one a while back with a bosch, but the others are certainly not bosch.

Answer
Hell Alexander. Sounds like you're a tech... what company?

From you're description, it sounds like you have 4-wire detectors and the RM-1 Power Loop Supervisory module.

If this is the case, you're using the wrong resistors and it may even be in the wrong place.

If you don't have the installation manual, download it here:

Check the wiring diagram including the RM-1 module. I think you'll find it's a 5600 ohm resistor.

Hope this helps!

Dave
