I know all 24 manufactures of fire alarm panels. If you ask me I will tell you who I think is the best, and who is the worst. A lot has changed in 30 years, and many consumers have no idea what they are buying, and what they should expect for reliability for their systems. The question is, why are you paying for so many repairs? In the South, re-occurring revenue is extremely important. Do you fall in that category?

Security & Fire Protection Systems - CCTV camouflage q's and more

Expert: John E. Pecore Power Quality Engineer - 7/7/2009

Question
I have a CCTV system operating at the moment. We've had some troublesome neighbours and need the system to be as covert as possible to remain unnoticed. I live in London, England so some systems may vary in availability. I have 4 questions:

1 - Can you suggest any ways to 'camouflage' cameras which I want to put outside? E.g. A 'DIY' dummy box or something to hide/make the camera unnoticed?

2 - Any suggestions to 'camouflage' the cameras which I have currently against my window? At the moment I have one on top of a small box in-between two small flower pots but I'd like to think of better ways of integrating it into the surroundings.

3 - At the moment I have infra red cameras. However these are obvious at night-time (red light). So I have to switch most of them off so they won't be spotted. But it's self-defeating to not use them. Is there a way to stop the beam from showing?

4 - Following from q. 3, if there is not way to reduce the infra red beam, what are the alternative cameras out there which will allow night vision without being spotted? (Within a reasonable budget)?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
First answer I would like to give you something to look at.  Look on this web site pdf file, it will give you some ideas.  That is the main thing....  I sounds like you don't have much to shop around with where you are at.

I think you will like the mini hidden covert cameras, well within your budget.  These are at wholesale prices.

For illumination at night, there are all kinds of neat devices that you can use for illumination other then directly on the camera....towards the end of the information on the pdf. So that means you can plant illuminations anywhere, and point your camera at the spot.

Try and stay with the 12DC products, kind of universal...if you catch my meaning for power.

Buy a ceramic flower pot.  Drill a hole in it and fashion a milk carton square size to help protect it from the dirt, buy one of the wireless setups mini cameras, or something like it.  You are peeping through a hole of the pot. Make sure you put a plant in it, and if it were tomatoes, maybe your perp will steal some and you get a close look at him. By the way, if they pick up the pot and threw it to the ground, the impact will not destroy the camera in it's hidden area.  The illuminations is coming somewhere else.

Remember most Perps are not very intelligent, otherwise they would not be hoodlums would they?  They would be smart enough to do something constructive or productive?

Create a distraction.  Buy some motion sensor spot lights that do not depend on AC power, rather solar power.  Plant them in various areas. As the Perp comes close, the light comes on, plenty of light to distract them on your real purpose.  Use color lenses to throw them off.  Some regular some red, some blue, some yellow and so forth.  To distract them may provide some new surprises.  They might even try to steal one.

I hate for you to think I might be too personal, but I would love to hear/or/read your story in private.  I bet you have a good one to go to these extremes.

Now let say, I have never visited your country, but believed the stories that were told to me by Christian missionary that visit your country.  Is it not true that many of your churches are abandon now, so that means that much of your moral fiber has been destroyed due to the lack of Christ not in peoples hearts?  They live for today, but not for eternity, am I correct in saying that?

Your norm is governed by Fear, not by peace?

I hoped I helped you a little bit...if you would like to tell me your story in private, jpecore@earthlink.net
