Security & Fire Protection Systems - wireless house alarm

Expert: Dave Neuweiler - 7/7/2009

Question
my micro mark wireless house alarm is brand new with brand new batteries installed. my pir's pick you up when you walk into the room but do not trigger the alarm unless i have the control panel close to them. the ramge is up to 100 ft but my house is only about 50 ft long. also when i activate the anti jamming system the alarm automatically goes off after 40 seconds. what is wrong with my alarm system ?

Answer
Hello Alastair, and thanks for your question.

I have to admit that I'd never heard of Micromark until you wrote. But I was able to read a few reviews and advertisements on the Internet.

Obviously, this is a do-it-yourself type product, which isn't a bad thing in itself -- but on the other hand, experience shows for some of these kinds of products, that the claims of operational capabilities are sometimes optimistic at best.

The best advice I can give is to try to situate the PIRs and the control in such a manner that there's a clear line of sight between the components. The wireless capabilities will be reduced by walls.

I have no technical documents on this equipment, so I can't even hazard a guess on why the system alarms when the anti-jamming feature is activated. Perhaps in your manual there's a number for technical or customer support.

I wish i could have been of more help!

Best Regards,

Dave
