I was having the same exact problem for some time now and thought it was the smokes as well. Finally got in touch with someone from Kidde who knew what they were talking about and she indicated that the Kidde smoke alarms are not even capable of emitting these types of alarms. She told me that the source of the alarm was probably a carbon monoxide detector.
Low and behold, i unhooked the CO monitor Tuesday night and there have been no alarms since.
