Yes, I have Kidde smoke detectors. And yes, I'm up at night, trying to figure out why their chirping - instead of sleeping.

Sorry - I'm holding the detector while it's chirping. It's not another device.

My guess? Poor design.

I have two smoke detectors in the house and I changed batteries on both of them just after the daylight savings day this year. The night chirping only happens to one of them and the sound is continuous but low,sometimes high enough to wake me up. My dog is scared to death.

Easy peasy, if it is occurring at the same time window each day then it is a power flucuation in your local grid. IE the utility company switching grids between high (day) and low (night) usage.
