Experience I've been growing my own seeds for 20 years with indoor propagation equipment I built myself. I am also an Allexperts volunteer on the perennial forum. I have completed the Master Gardener course through the Kansas State University Extension. I have experience with a wide variety of seeds and I have also read through Norm Deno's books on seed germination.
Question Hello Tom,
I bought a clivia miniata plant. What type of fertilizer should I be feeding this plant? Also what is the best type of soil or soiless product should the plant be in?
Thank You
Doug Recher
Answer Hi Doug,
Thanx for your question. Clivia is not frost hardy. You can use a standard potting soil. Keep the soil well drained, a pH 5.5-6.5 best suits Clivia.
Partial to full shade. A generous amount of slow release fertilizer (such as Osmocote) applied regularly from early spring to mid summer achieves maximum growth.
This plant is also poisonous if ingested. I hope this helps.
Tom
