Seinfeld/Seinfeld - Easy Big Fella
Expert: Rob Hill - 1/7/2009
QuestionHi Rob,
My friend and I were talking over Seinfeld this Christmas and a quote came up; "easy big fella", said by Jerry to George. For the life of us we couldn't remember the episode or scene that featured said quote. Have you any ideas as to which episoe or scene this quote belongs to? I'm confident the line is only used once in the history of Seinfeld but all I can remember about it's context is that George is getting hot under the collar about someone's behaviour and Jerry is restraining him with his words and a pat on the chest.
Thanks for your help.
Chris
AnswerHi Chris,
Yes, I remember this scene. It actually comes from one of my favorite episodes, Season 5's "The Hamptons".
In this episode, the group spends the weekend at their friend's beachfront home in the Hamptons. Jerry's girlfriend Rachel accidentally walks in on George as he's changing and notices his "shrinkage". George obsesses about it the rest of the episode, worrying that Rachel will tell his girlfriend Jane. At dinner that evening, George tries to get the concept of shrinkage across to Rachel by using his shrunken t-shirt as an example. After Elaine replies with one of my favorite all-time Elaine quotes ("Really? Tell us more, Mr. Science."), Rachel and Jane start giggling. Rachel then whispers something into Jane's ear, which causes George to lose his composure. George asks Jane what Rachel whispered to her, saying that it's impolite to tell secrets. After Jane asks him, "what is it with you?", Jerry then leans over to George and quietly says, "easy big fella.....easy". The exchange is then interrupted as Michael (the homeowner) asks Kramer about the lobsters he had caught.
Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions.
