About Ariela
Expertise
I own all the DVDs, and have watched all of the special features and commentaries on all the episodes, most of them several times. I have whole sections of dialouge memorized as well as knowing a lot of little details. I'm good at placing a random quote, character, or scene, into its correct episode and season. I can also fill you in on all details of any minor character that ever appeared on the show or any answer any minor triva-type questions. However, I don't know much about the actor's real lives, or products seen on the show.

Seinfeld - Seinfeld & Steinbrenner jokes

Expert: Ariela - 7/16/2007

Question
Over the weekend I was watching some of the Seinfeld DVD box sets.  It made me curious about something regarding all of the Steinbrenner jokes, parodies, and put-downs made by Jerry and George.  Did Steinbrenner ever react or make any comments about this?  He seems like a no-nonsense person so I doubt he liked it.  But then, who knows.  If you have any information about this please let me know.
Thank you!

Answer
Dear Scott,

Hi, Actually, I don't know too much about this, but I'll tell you what I do know. Apparently when Steinbrenner first heard that he was to be a character on the show, he thought he was being mocked because George Costanza's name was George, not because of the way he was portrayed. After it was explained to him that that had been the character's name from the beginning, he was apparently okay with it, to the degree that he actually guest appeared on an episode. Don't look for this though, because it was cut out of the final broadcast due to time constraints, also because it wasn't nearly as funny as Larry David's rendition. Plus, it was considered that once the actually Steinbrenner appeared on the show, it would then be hard to go back to the characterized version.

Thanks for the question and please feel free to write again. If you found this answer helpful, positive feedback is always appreciated!

Best wishes,
yada yada yada,
Ariela
