About Jack Expertise I can answer questions about the most effective techniques in unarmed fighting and self defense. Video lessons are available at www.selfdefensestrategies.com
Experience I am a lifetime martial artist and competitor.
Question I took shihe quan kung fu when I was younger, I took karate before that. I have some quin na skills, as well as some northern/southern shaoln KF skill. I took a few classes in tai chi also. I am a fast learner, but kung fu and karate just seem a bit impractical. Watching the news after the recent tragedy, and watching the marines train, I picked up on some of their stuff. For instance, a friend of mine snuck up on me( I was a bit edgy anyway) and I didnt know that it was him. I was in my back yard. He grabbed me by the neck(like a choke hold) and I instinctivly lowered my stance, put my right leg behind his legs and ripped him off of the ground by his pant legs. I'm not a violent person, but what I picked up on is so cool. Do you know of any videos or books that have that kind of material in it? KF and karate (for the most part) I have found require some sort of space, and only by advancing in rank over a long period will you learn hand to hand street(?) fighting. So, any ideas? thanks.

Answer Hi Eric,
The only videos I would recommend to you are the "GRACIE STREET SELF DEFENSE" vidoes. The rangers have adopted a boiled down version of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The Gracie street self defense videos are in my opinion the best videos available for practial, street self defense situations. They can be purchased at www.gracieacademy.com and you can actually download a free video preview with quicktime player. I have all of the gracies training videos as I have trained for almost 9 years with various family members, And I they are the best money I have ever spent.
Good luck in your training.
