Question
Hello. Mom applied for ALTC on 7/20/09, her first full month of rent is due next week.   How do I deal with the $3,000 fee when she doesn't have the cash?

Answer
Lori:

As I'm sure ALTCS explained to you, it can be anywhere from 30 to 60 days before she is approved and until that time she is a private pay status.

So I would figure how much money your mom has in savings to cover the $3000.00 monthly fee and if you only have enough to cover one month you may have to talk to other family members, if you have siblings, and  them to help with the rent until she rolls over into ALTCS.

Have you informed the facility that you have applied for ALTCS?
Does the facility accept ALTCS?
Which ALTCS provider plan do they accept? Mercycare,S.C.A.N.,Evercare or Bridegway.

If the facility is already aware of you applying for ALTCS that's great, but unfortunately unless the facility can work with you on what your mom's social security payment is, the $3000.00 a month payment would be do until ALTCS takes over.

If you should have any questions please email us again.

Thanks,
Alan B.
