AboutMaryJo Mellado Willey Expertise I take my children camping in Sequoia often. I have favorite places to visit, and some easy hikes to take. There is also a small lake close by where one can fish, swim, or rent a small boat.
Experience I've camped in both Lodgepole and Dorst campgrounds. There are plusses to both of them.
Question Hello MaryJo
We are a group of three familys (16total) hoping and planning to arrive labor day weekend to Sequoia NP. All of the information you provided to others including your personal camping photos are Extremly Helpful. You do mentioned campsite 24 were you stayed, however, after reviewing the your attach map, I noticed the map indiactes Tent Camping only: Sites 69-144. Can you clarify this for me? Also, were can i make advance reservations for this campsite and can i infact make a reservation for up to 16 of us? We were alos planning to head out to Sunset(Grant Grove) or Canyon View (Cedar Grove) Campgrounds. Would you happen to know anything about these campgrounds? We do have small children and would like to be next to Swimming, restrooms (flushable preferably) and showers. Talk about hitting the wilderness huh? Thanks for the help.
Answer Hi Rosie,
I should have said we stayed in 124, though by looking at the map it was probably 125. It was the 2nd campsite walking in from the parking area towards the little waterfall that is there at the end of the campground (I think 125).
You asked me to clarify tent camping only, sites 69-144. That means that those sites do not accommodate RVs, only tents. You can have up to six people in a campsite, so would probably have to reserve 3 campsites close to each other, if you can. There are no group campsites at Lodgepole, although there are at Dorst.
Put in California, Sequoia, and Lodgepole, and the range of dates you'd like to stay, then the number of nights.
I just checked Labor Day weekend, and saw some sites that were available. When you click on book now you will get a description of the campground. In the upper left is a green map. Click on it to get a detailed view, and you can also see what campsites area available.
I have never campted at the campsites at Grant Grove, but in 2002 we camped in Sheepcreek campground in Cedar Grove. We did not need to make reservations, and found plenty of campsites available.
(Try Lodgepole campsites 79-84 -- I saw some available. You'll like that area.)
