About Sal
Expertise
I am privileged to be able to offer an alternative insight into the complicated world of Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA) theology. I will rely heavily on the Bible, but will also consider history and use logic in exposing deficiencies in SDA teachings. I would ask anyone who is considering becoming a SDA or if you are already in the SDA church, but are searching for the truth, to please allow me to offer a different explanation for the claims of the SDA. Remember : "The truth will set you free" (John 8:32). I can answer your questions pertaining to the beliefs and history of the SDA. I am not able to answer questions concerning spirituality or church discipline.

Experience
I have extensively studied the theology of the Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA) for a number of years. I have many books and tape sets produced by experts in this field of study. I have debated current members of the SDA church. I have a great desire to help these people see the truth.

Education/Credentials
M.S. degree in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics

Seventh-Day Adventists - clean and unclean

Question
sal,
thanks for all ur help on here.  A text that is really bothering me is genesis 7:2. It pretty much shows there was a distinction between cleean and unclean before the old covenant. can u help me out on this?

Answer
Dear Nick:

You didn’t actually say what bothers you about there being a distinction made between animals (clean and unclean) before Sinai. The difference between animals before Sinai was made to determine which animals were appropriate for sacrifice to the Holy God. To this distinction after was added at Sinai which animals were clean to eat. The example you gave from Genesis 7 is that Noah was commanded to take 7 pairs of clean animals and only one pair of unclean animals (vs. 2-3). This was commanded by God so that the clean animals could be used for sacrifice without Noah causing their extinction. “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it” (Genesis 8:20). The distinction between clean and unclean animals was not related to some dietary law. We can be sure of this because God gave Noah all animals to eat without any distinction. "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant” (Genesis 9:3).

Sacrificing animals was basically around from the beginning of human kind (Genesis 4:3-4). The Patriarchs built altars for sacrifice well before Sinai (Genesis 12:7-8; 13:4, 18; 26:25; 35:7). So the distinction between unclean and clean animals was made so that a proper sacrifice could be offered to God. The dietary laws against eating unclean animals was what was given at Sinai. It was only for those under the Old Covenant and was abrogated at Calvary.

I hope this answered your concern. If it didn't just let me know what your concern is and I will try to help.

God Bless You,
Sal
