Question I know a guy at work that seems like he is really seeking but I think that his objections to the SDA church are turning into totally rejecting God. His loyalty to the SDA church is amazing though, he says he still believes, tithes, but I think he has just been totally smothered by the legalism, the sabbath keeping, no sports etc etc. He seems like he is going to the opposite extreme like I can live however I want as long as Im a good person and believe, partly because this is the overwhelming view of the world and that is who he is surrounded by. Where do I start in telling him that his religion is just that, that all the law keeping is not God. I dont know that much about SDA just what Ive learned this week from the net because I really feel the Holy Spirit leading me to help him. Is there one book that would be good to start with ? Obviously I know the Bible, but he has alot of Bible knowledge and Im sure a lifetime of SDA teachings that refute the scriptures that point out the errors of their teachings.
Answer Hi Jillian,
Thank you for this great question. I am not sure where to start. Has he stopped going to church all together? Perhaps he needs to fellowship with believers who are not under the bondage of the Old Testament Law like SDA. If he does not want to, what is his major hang up with non SDA Bible preaching churches... is it the Sabbath. Point out to him that we do not "keep" Sunday... the Sabbath will always be on Saturday... but it has been nailed to the cross.
Colossians 2:14,16
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
If you have more specific questions, I would be happy to try to help in a follow up question.
In Christ
Pastor Don
