Seventh-Day Adventists/New Covenant Theology

Question
I am doing a book review on Tom Wells and Fred Zaspel book, New Covenant Theology. I have engaged Tom Norris in my study who claims the Reformed Sabbath was created by Jesus. I have asked him for scriptural proof without result. NCT believes that the Mosaic Law was fulfilled by Jesus. That is why I mentioned Col 2:16, 17. Tom believes that Jesus stated all that is necessary to understanding about the Sabbath in the New Covenant era. My question, if their was an Old and New Covenant, did they see the Sabbath differently. Heb 8:13 shows me an obsolete Old Covenant. My question, how did Jesus leave the Sabbath?

Answer
Dear Brother Bob:

I believe that Mr. Tom Norris is very capable of answering his own questions. Concerning his Reformed or New Covenant Sabbath I believe that he has provided ample scriptural proof to support his claim. Please see the following answers from Mr. Norris:

You ask, "if their was an Old and New Covenant..." Do you believe that there was only one covenant?

Yes, those under the covenants did see the Sabbath differently. The Israelites saw the Sabbath as the sign of their covenant with God (cf. Exodus 31:12-17). To violate the Sabbath meant certain death (cf. Exodus 35:2). In the New Covenant the early Church saw the Sabbath as an option (cf. Romans 14:5). The sign of the Old Covenant was seen as obsolete (cf. Hebrews 8:13)and that is how Jesus left the Sabbath.

Have a blessed day,
Brother Sal

Expertise

I am privileged to be able to offer an alternative insight into the complicated world of Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA) theology. I will rely heavily on the Bible, but will also consider history and use logic in exposing deficiencies in SDA teachings. I would ask anyone who is considering becoming a SDA or if you are already in the SDA church, but are searching for the truth, to please allow me to offer a different explanation for the claims of the SDA. Remember : "The truth will set you free" (John 8:32). I can answer your questions pertaining to the beliefs and history of the SDA. I am not able to answer questions concerning spirituality or church discipline.

Experience

I have extensively studied the theology of the Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA) for a number of years. I have many books and tape sets produced by experts in this field of study. I have debated current members of the SDA church. I have a great desire to help these people see the truth.
