I strongly disagree with the answer above. I am a SDA and I see the faults of the church and all the members do not believe the same things. Like me. I know Nephilims are real and he "sons of God" is refering to angels. Everyone knows that man has not and cannot present themselves before the Lord face to face, so read Job 1:6 "Now there was aday when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD , and Satan came also among them. Humans can't be face to face with God, and Elijah yes he got carried up to heaven in a chariot of fire and he was human, but I know God wouldn't bring him to heaven if he had Satan with him, so the "sons of God" have to be angels. If that's not enough proof then turn to Job 38:1-7 "Then the LORD answered Job out of a whirlwind, and said,"Who is this this thatdarkenethcousel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of h\the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hash made the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it. Where upon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the songs of God shouted for joy?" Those verses were God questioning Job asking him whee was in the during the Creation, because man not made 'til after the creation and verse 7 says "When the morning stars sang together, the sons of God shouted for joy. If man were not even created then how would they shout for joy? It was clearly the angels. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the sons of Gods." Matthew 5:9. "for neither can they die anymore, for they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. (Luke 20:36)" KJV says "Neither can they die anymore: fpr thryar eequal to angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the ressurection."Luke 20:36 THat's a vesre spoken by Jesus Christ. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14 , KJV Romans 8:14 "For as many as ae led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." It's saying not you are the sons of God but those who are being lrd by him right now. and the verses before is someone explaining how the Holy Spirit works.I'm kind of uzzy in hat area. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14) this is still under investigation by me because Paul was talking to I believe man in this verse. I'm not disrespecting anyone I just thought I should share my thoughts.AlsoThe men that went with Caleb did describe the men as giants and said they are grasshoppers compared to them, its because the were Nephilim. Some people who think that all people were people were giants back then were obviously wrong because the children of Isreal were not.In my conclusion I would have to disagree with the answer above ,and say that nephilim are "the sons of God".

Esther has not supplied an answer to the problem with her view that the text of Gen. 6:4 contains the “as well as later” statement. After the Flood there is no repeat story of this supposed mixing of angel and man. Yet we have giants or nephilim mentioned as in Numbers 13:33. Also man is condemned for this union, but angels are not even mentioned for their supposed part in this abomination. It seems that God would have condemned the angels for their part in this supposed union yet the text does not contain a like condemnation of the angels. Also it needs to be explained how spiritual beings could have sexual relations with humans.

Sal, you seem to have some issue/s with the church that seem to be affecting what, I would consider clear reasoning.  I'm not saying anything about you or your state of mind, but to conclude that our (man-kind's) unanswered questions to God, implies that there are no answers, or it's opposite is true should trouble all of us. Reasoning like this seem to suggest that God owes us answers, or that anything not covered in God's word suggest it did not or will not occur...

We must remember that a judgement day is coming and all evil will be dealt with, including evil angles, which we all know exist.  As for what appears, to me, to be your issue with the church, like Esther said, everything the church says does not make it God's Word.  You have the right to disagree, provided you can base your disagreement upon scripture.  Scripture warns us to study for our selves and to rightly divide the word of truth.

Sal, you seem to be a pretty knowledgeable person, but a bit angry.  I would say to you, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

God bless you and yours, and have a blessed Sabbath.

I'm happy to hear that you are able to find fault with the organizations, which is ran by men (fallen man).  This suggest to me that church is not a cult, as some have attempted to falsely claim.

Dear Naomi,

after reading both what u wrote and what the person below u  said.. there good answers, but that very may well be true about the height; tall in height,or them seeming ta be giants because of the difference of the Israelites size.... but i have a parable for that...... there called giants because the fallen fell, due to the forbidden fruit that they consumed..... that made them arrogant... and most people don't know what the forbidden fruit is.. the forbidden fruit is knowledge on how ta splice/tamper/ or clone.. so they knew how ta do that and that made them giants in the head.. its a parable... ~i tell you the truth~... and there came a breed of demonic people.... there u have it

GENESIS 6:1 FOCUS OUR ATTENTION TOWARDS THE MULTIPLICATION OF MEN OR THE CHILDREN OF CAIN. AND DAUGHTERS ARE BORN UNTO THEM.

6:2 ON THE OTHER HAND THE SONS OF SETH WHO HAD STARTED WORSHIPING THE LORD THEIR CREATOR AFTER THE BIRTH OF SETH TURNED AWAY FROM THEIR PRINCIPAL AND MARRIED THE DAUGHTERS OF CAIN.

6:3 CLEARLY MENTIONS THE LORD SAYING THAT MY SPIRIT SHALL NOT ALWAYS STRIVE WITH MAN FOR HE IS FLESH. THERE IS NO MENTION OF AN ANGEL AT ALL BUT MAN AND FLESH.

6:4 CLEARLY MENTIONS THAT THERE WERE GIANTS BEFORE THE SONS OF GOD (OR THE BELIEVERS OR THE SONS OF SETH) CAME UNTO THE DAUGHTERS OF MEN OR CAIN AND ALSO AFTER.

THE CHILDREN BORN TO THE DAUGHTERS OF MEN ARE  SAID TO BE THE MIGHTY MEN OF OLD AND MEN OF RENOWN.

THE ONLY THING I CAN UNDERSTAND IS THAT WHEN YOU CALL SOMEONE MIGHTY AND A MEN OF RENOWN IS WHEN THAT PERSON HAS DONE SOME THING EXTRA ORDINARY.

IN THAT CASE WHEN THESE CHILDREN TURNED INTO MANHOOD THEY MUST HAVE FOUGHT THE GIANTS AND DEFEATED THEM WHEN EVER WAR BROKE OUT. LIKE DAVID KILLED GOLIATH. DAVID WAS NOT GIANT BUT GOD WAS WITH HIM. SIMILARLY THESE MEN DID NOT HAVE TO BE GIANT IN ORDER TO KILL A GIANT.

I HOPE MY EXPLANATION WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.

Who Are the "Sons of God"?

Ángel Manuel Rodríguez

I've been reading some commentaries on Genesis 6:1-4, and almost all of them interpret the expression "son of God" as a reference to divine beings or angels. What is a proper understanding of this biblical text?

Until recently the prevailing opinion among commentators was that the phrase "sons of God" referred to angels. Canaanite literature used this same phrase to designate divine beings, members of the divine pantheon. This use of the phrase has been read into the passage by a number of modern scholars. They use ancient mythology to interpret the text because, supposedly, this passage contains ancient myths.

Extrabiblical materials can be helpful in understanding difficult passages. However, those backgrounds should not determine the interpretation of a passage if in the process we sacrifice the principle that the Bible is its own interpreter. We should begin with the biblical text itself. From it we can observe the following points:

     1. Use of "sons of God" in the Old Testament. A study of the phrase reveals that it is used to designate the Israelite king (Ps. 2:7; 2 Sam. 7:14); angels (Job 38:7); and heavenly beings, members of the divine council (Job 1:6; 2:1). In a very special way the Israelites are called sons/children of God. Israel is the firstborn son of God (Ex. 4:22, 23).

     2. Immediate context. In Genesis 4 and 5 the human race is divided into two main groups: the descendants of Cain (Gen. 4: 17-24) and those of Seth ( verses 25, 26).

In Genesis 6:1,2 this division is clearly recognized by referring to those who followed the Lord as "sons of God" and to the rest of humanity as "men." There is nothing in the immediate context to suggest that the "sons of God" are kings, angels, or heavenly beings.

     3. Significance of the expression "to take a wife." Verse 2 describes a legal and permanent union between the sons of God and the daughters of men. "They took to wife such of them as they chose" (RSV) includes a verb that is a technical expression to designate marriage, the act of entering into a legal and binding relationship between a man and a woman (Gen. 4:19; 11:29; 12:19; 20:2, 3).

Had the reference been to angels, one would have to conclude that they married the daughters of men and became their legal husbands. This is rejected by all serious interpreters.

     4. Concept of judgment. The sin of the "sons of God" brought judgment on the human race. Had they been angels or heavenly beings, they, and possibly the daughters of men, should have been punished for their sins, but not the human race as a whole.

     5. Descendants were human beings. Children born as a result of these intermarriages are not described as semidivine or semiangelic beings. There is a reference to the nephilim who were on the earth in those days, but the Hebrew text does not say that they were the descendants of the intermarriages (although some translations make that suggestion).

The sentence "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days. . ." seems to be a parenthetical statement. Nephilim is a Hebrew word whose meaning is not clear, and translators do not provide any English equivalent. In Numbers 13:33 this term designates giants. The antediluvian Nephilim were destroyed by the Flood, but later the term was used to refer to people of unusual height and violence who inhabited the land of Canaan.

"Men of renown" means "men of reputation" and describes a person with a good character (1 Chron. 12:30), and also individuals who use their influence for evil purposes (Num. 16:2, 3;1 Chron. 5:24, 25). Here the contexts seems to require a negative interpretation of that terminology.

Thus contextual and linguistic analysis indicates that the best interpretation of the phrase "sons of God" is the one that finds in it a designation of the descendants of Seth. This appears to be the one suggested by Scripture itself.

The Apostle Paul’s words to the Colossians and Laodiceans (see Col. 2:1) should be a warning to all who would place any great significance on the issue of which is the right day to worship, whether it be Saturday, Sunday, Friday, a New Moon, etc. Here are Paul’s words concerning the matter:

"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ …. Do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ (Colossians 2:8, 16-17).

Instead of debating the Sabbath, calendar dates, and lunar-solar significance, we ought to listen to Jesus Christ the Messiah who fulfilled all of the Old Testament types and pictures. Why should we listen to Christ-Messiah as the final authority instead of Moses and the prophets?

Read Matthew 17:1-8. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus stood with Peter, James, and John. Moses (representing The Law) and Elijah (representing the prophets) appeared and talked with Jesus—who is the Fulfillment of both the Law and the Prophets.

Peter spontaneously opined (not that he was asked), “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While Peter yet spoke, "a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’”

So, what was wrong with Peter’s suggestion that God the Father had to correct? Peter was putting Moses and Elijah (the Old Testament Laws and Prophetic declarations) on an equal footing with Christ. The Father had to let Peter and the disciples know that his Son, Jesus the Living Word in the flesh, having fulfilled the written and spoken Word (to the extent that Jesus had completely pleased Him—the Father) He, Jesus was to be heeded and obeyed above and beyond Moses and Elijah (above the OT Law and Prophets).

So, what has Jesus to say concerning laws and rules such as the Sabbath, and New Moons etc? For one thing, Jesus claimed to be the Lord of the Sabbath ( see Luke 6:1-5), and if He in that capacity, did not require his disciples to adhere to the sabbatical rules and regulations, dare we do that while claiming to yield to his Lordship?

What we ought to do is observe the one commandment Jesus gave to us; that we love one another (see John 13:33-35). Of course, this can only be achieved if we abide in Him; that is: trusting in his total fulfillment of the Law on our behalf—because we could not do it for ourselves (Read John chapter 15). By trusting in Him we are able to REST from the BURDEN of observing days and seasons as though by that we could add one iota of righteousness to our account.

I have been questioning GEN 6 for years, read multiple commentaries from many different theological views and have come to the conclusion that no one really knows what this passage means. The John MaCarthur commentary 1982  is somewhat ambiguous also, however, John MaCarthur narrative seams to lean toward the nephilium being hybrid offspring of human women and fallen angels, or possibly demonic (possessed)human males. There are references in the N.T. to angels that refused to keep their place (Jude 1). God placed life span limits 120 yrs. on the ungodly people of Noah's days    as an opportunity to repent before the flood judgment,(Gen 6.3). It appears that God's Holy Spirit strives with men 120 yrs. and this along with post flood environmental factors impacted longevity after the time of Abraham.

How would you explain the archaeological findings around the world of giant "human" skeletons?   Would these giant "human" skeletons have anything to do with the giants of Genesis?

Dear Naomi:

I am a Christian and I observe the seventh day Sabbath, and I was baptized into the SDA church.  With that said I have studied this subject in depth. I also researched the other books that the bible referenced i.e. the Book of Yasher, Jasher depending if taken from Hebrew or Latin, the Book of Jubilees, Please Note these are only History books and are not considered scripture but they give a good insight into the scriptures.  I also reviewed the Book of Enoch it is still in the Ethiopic Christian Bible, note the Book of Enoch was placed in and out of the scriptures over time due to political favor, on to your question.

Nephilim are the offspring of the fallen angels and human woman.  The first generation grew to 300 ft tall. These are not the offspring of the sons of Seth.   In the Book of Enoch they were only allowed to live 500 years and God ordered Gabriel to cause them to kill each other off. After the death of the first generation of Nephilim the watchers i.e. only 200 fallen angels were confined to Tartarus.   Please read the book of Enoch for further information.  Also look up Moses when he sent his spies in to Land of Canaan after the 40 years in the wilderness.   Get you self a good concordance to translate the words, both Hebrew and Greek words have more than one definition.  Good luck in the subject

Sal, you say you have been used by God to help people see the errors of the SDA church and exposing their falsehoods. Also that the mixing of the Law and Gospel does not, as a rule, produce good fruit. You are fast asleep and need to wake up. Good fruit is a result of faith in God and what is good fruit other than being obedient to the Law. Honestly Sal, it is not rocket science nevertheless i will pray the Holy Spirit to open your eyes like He did Saul's then i will call you Pal.

Let's look at the big picture from a procreation prespective.

1.  The sons of God took wives of human females.

2. The product of this union created giants, the first abnormal births.  We must stop right here and depart from the idea that the offsprings from this union not only had human abilities but, they had magical or super powers seeing that angels cross breeding with humanity.

3.  Born in sin.  The blood supply of all humanity became contaminated.  This will be explained later.

4.  For God to destroy the entire earth tells us that, these fallen angels had corrupted not only the blood of humanity but, fish, animals, birds and even plants were also victims of reproduction NY these fallen angels.

5. Giants with super powers to fly, live under water, etc.

6.  Greek mythology was not a myth and Genesis 6 would explain Zeus, Apollo, Mermaids, Madusa. Minotaur, Dagon, etc.

Now let's look at Jesus Christ.

1.  Mary is the daughter of men

2.  The Holy Spirit impregnated Mary.

3.  Jesus was the product of this union.

4.  Jesus had "super powers"

I believe we can see the similarities.

Since the blood supply of humanity had been corrupted, the redemption of humanity had to come through the sacrifice of one with "pure blood".

I think this may explain a lot.

I forgot to add.

Palm readers, fortune tellers, star gazers are accurate, real and this is some of the satanic traits that are still with us today.

Paul and Silas cast the demon out of a fortune teller and she was "accurate"
