Sewing - singer sewing machine locking up

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 11/27/2008

Question
the wheel locks up...what could be causing this?

Answer
HI Kathy,
Not knowing which Singer or how old it is limits my answer.

First, could be the machine needs cleaning. Lint gathers quickly and needs removing.

Could be threads caught in the bobbin race.

could need to be oiled.

could be worn out.

could have seized up.

I have had all the above happen to my machines.  Some I was able to correct myself, others to the repair shop.

This is not a good time of year for sewers to have machines not working.  I have my main machine in the repair shop.  26 ahead of it for being worked on.  I have a spare (50 yrs old) that I am making do with to get Christmas presents done.

Hope your machine is easy to get back going.
