Sewing - How to shorten coat sleeves?

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 12/18/2008

Question
how to shorten coat sleeves?

Answer
HI Iris
A lot depends on the type of sleeve, but here are some general instructions.

1. remove stitching from the lining and coat sleeve where they attach to each other.

2. mark where you want the sleeve length to be on the coat.

3. cut of some of the excess material on both the coat sleeve and lining.  Leave about an inch or so for turning under.

4. turn under the coat sleeve.

5. turn under the lining, having it about a half inch shorter than the coat sleeve.

6. stitch the lining to the coat sleeve.
