About Vinette de Phillipe Expertise I have many years of experience and can answer most questions pertaining to sewing, altering patterns, finding notions, and more.
Experience I have been making my own clothes since 1957. Have taught many classes both for young and adults, including my two boys.
Question I just purchased this machine and have never made buttonholes on any machine. (I have done mostly mock French handsewing in the past.) I believe I have followed all instructions from the manual with regard to threading, buttonhole attachhment, etc; however, I have what someone else referred to as "birdsnests" on the bottom of the fabric. Also, I think the machine does not sound right during bottonholing, but since I have not been successful at this, I don't know what it should sound like. On what settings should the stitch length and width be set? I notice that the light on stitch does not light up when the buttonhole attachment is in place...?
This is a great website. In reading your responses to the questions posed by others I got some answers I had been looking for. Thanks
Answer HI Ann,
I always try to help. Glad some of my answers were helpful.
When making buttonholes, the machine should sound like it is zig-zag-ing.
The birdsnest sounds like the machine might not be threaded right.
Tkhe stitch length should be short, the zig-zag small. As to the light, it may be that the buttonhole attachment is not correctly attached.
I just looked at the model. It is one I have. And sorry to say I regret getting it. It froze up on me and no longer works.
It may be a problem with the machine itself.
If none of my suggestions help, you may want to consider takeing it back to get it fixed.
