Sewing - replacing needle

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 3/8/2008

Question
How do I change the needle on my Singer 1120 machine?

I am placing the needle in and tightening the screw on the right, but the needle keeps falling out.

Answer
HI Susan,
If you look at the needle you will see that one side is flat.  This is usually the back side of the needle, opposite the groved side.

If the machine threads from front to back, the flat side goes to the back of the machine.

If the machine threads right to left, then the flat side of the needle goes to the left of the machine.

If the needle is not pushed all the way up in its holder, It will not be secure, so besure to push the needle all the way up before tightening the screw.

hope this helps.
