Sewing - Altering a bodice

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 4/24/2008

Question
Hello, I am making 3 bridesmaid strapless bodices' and skirts. The bodices' have no darts just 7 separate panels (the first one being cut on the fold) lining and boning. One of the bridesmaids is very busty but has a tiny waist how do i alter the pattern to allow for the bust and the waist? Thank you very much for your help

Answer
HI Helen,
What I would do is to  make sure the bust area fits correctly.  Then work on the waist.

Since there are 7 panels, you can taper each one from under the bust to the waist to make it smaller.

I would put the bodice on inside out and then work the seams to the waist by basting each one.

When you get it to fit the way you want, then stitch the seams.
