Sewing - altering ready made pants

Question
QUESTION: I wear a size 16, and in some pants, the fabric in the crotch area, seems to bunch up. I almost need to 'bow' my legs, to let the fabric fall! I never notice in the store, when I try them on, that they are any different. Also, I generally buy the same brand & same size, thinking the fit would be the same.
I buy elastic waist.

ANSWER: HI Phyllis,
I am having trouble understanding if the crotch is too long or too short.

I f you can clear this up for me I can better assist you.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I'm not sure! I've tried them on again, and the fabric I can pinch between my fingers in the crotch area, seem to be about the same as in my other pants!
When I walk, the inner thigh fabric seems to bunch up & there's a lot of extra fabric in the crotch. I have to either pull it down, or kinda 'squiggle' so that it drops down! They're uncomfortable. It does seem, I guess, that the crotch must be too long, however, I tried to roll them over at the waist, and that does make them feel better, but as soon as I sit down, the back unrolls. I hope I've made this clear enough for you to understand. Thanks. Phyllis

Answer
HI Phyllis,
Yes you did make it clear, and I thank you for that.

From what you describe, the crotch is too long.  To fix this you need to use the inseam seam. This is NOT the one that makes a U shape when the pants are inside out.

put the pants on inside out, pinch the extra fabric and mark with pins.

You may want a friend to help with this so you won't bend over while doing this and get a wrong fit.

Once you have the excess marked, you can stitch it up, tapering the seam into the inseams.

hope this is clear.
