Question
How do I convert a regular pant pattern to one with wide legs?

HI Marge
To do this you need to add a 'V' shaped panel to each leg.  The bottom of the 'V' needs to be the number of inches you want to make the leg wider.

You will need to taper up the the point of the 'V' for the length.  Usually it is near the knee area.
