Sewing - shortening the crotch on a skort

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 7/7/2008

Question
Vinette,
Hi. My daughter's school uniform skort has a very low crotch and it makes it uncomfortable to walk in.  I tried to fix it by taking up the side to side seam (not the front to back seam).  When she tried them on, it looked much better from the back, but the front of the shorts looked "bunched up".  Did I do the wrong thing and what should I do now to correct it?
Thanks, Janice

Answer
HI Janice,
You did the correct procedure for shortening the crotch.  Since the back fits well, I suggest that you undo the seam and then having the skort  on your daughter, inside out, adjust the front seam .  It is possible that you may need to adjust the depth of the curve to prevent bunching.
