Sewing - Needle v. thread

Expert: Sharon Vogel - 10/1/2009

Question
I just got the Singer Simple 2263.  I initially had issues with very loose bobbin winding but the third time seemed to work?  Now I cannot keep the needle threaded.  I start sewing and find I am just going through the motion as the thread has pulled out of the needle.  Could I have the spool holder pushed on too tightly?  The thread has jumped off the tension button and the up/down lever as well as just coming out of the needle.

I have not sewn in 8 yrs so am a tad rusty.

Answer
Dear Angela,
It sounds as if the thread is getting caught somewhere before getting to the tension disk and lever so you very well may have the spool holder on too tight.  This may have happened when you were working with the bobbin winding.  Sometimes, the thread also catches on the notches on the spool that were put there to hold thread.  Check your manual to make sure everything is threaded correctly and that the bobbin has been inserted correctly.  I believe you will be able to get things going with manual reading and practice.

Please write again if you have further problems.

Sharon
