Sewing - Making a Mao collar using knit fabric

Expert: Sarah - 5/19/2009

Question
Hello!

I almost exclusively work with stretchy fabrics (knit fabric, jersey, spandex...) and I was wondering what's the best way to make a Mao collar using this kind of fabrics. I tried to interface the 2 parts of the collar but the fabric lost its stretchiness. But when I don't interface, the collar doesn't stand nicely.

Besides I'd like to know if you think it's possible to make a Peter pan collar as well, using stretchy fabrics.

Thank you very much and sorry for my bad English (I'm french)  :)

Answer
Hi Yuki,

You can interface any stretchy/knit fabric w/ tricot fusing!  Tricot is a fusible made especially for knits, and gives you the stability you need without losing the stretch. Search online and you will find a lot of tricot fusible sources.

Hope this helps!
