Sewing - Stitch witchery hem

Expert: Sharon Vogel - 5/27/2009

Question
Hi! I am in a pinch because the dress I'm wearing in a couple days is too
long and it is a polyester/spandex matte jersy material. Can I use a hem tape
or stitch witchery on this? What are your other recommendations? I have a
sewing machine but I was looking for a quicker fix. Thank you so much!

Answer
Dear Jenny,

No, I would not use one of the iron on hem tapes or stitch witchery because of the amount of heat required to make them stick adequately.  You would be in danger of damaging your dress fabric.  Stitching a hem with the sewing machine or even by hand is much safer and really won't take that long.  I would do it for you if I could!!

Good luck with your hem.

Sharon
