About Jennifer Thoden
Expertise I can answer all questions related to sewing window treatments... roman shades, window valances and drapes. I am glad to help troubleshoot a design or an issue with a project. I will not offer detailed instructions on exactly how to make a window treatment from scratch. I can also help with sewing home decor and quilting questions. Plus sewing techniques.
Experience I run a sewing projects web site http://www.SimpleSewingProjects.com where members can enjoy step by step video tutorials on how to sew a project... learn sewing techniques... and print illustrated step by step instructions. The sewing projects range from window treatments, home decor, clothing, tote bags to fun projects. I've been running my online sewing publishing business for about 10 years.
I also produce a weekly video podcast show called HowToSewWithJennyT.com showing viewers how to sew.

Sewing - can I alter a king size comforter to full size
Expert: Jennifer Thoden - 9/30/2009
Question can I alter a king size comforter and bedskirt to a full size
Answer It's always easier to go down a size than to get bigger... but I think the challenge here is that it's a comforter and not a duvet cover. Right?
Here's what I would do...
1. Open the side seams
2. Cut down the interior width to the size you need. I'd leave the length alone.
3. Trim off the excess fabric
4. Tuck in the raw edges about 1"... ideally the inside material is just about even with your folded edges.
5. Hand whip stitch the seams together.
Let me know if you have more questions on this.
Re: the bed skirt.
If this is a plain or box pleated skirt, I would simply fold in the excess length and width to make it look like the pleats were supposed to be there. And then top stitch across the top. Don't worry about the lining part folding. No one is going to see it.
