Question QUESTION: I need help backing up the pc game Age Of Mythology. It is protected by SafeDisc version 2.7. I downloaded the trial versions of CloneCD and Alcohol 120%, but there are errors in the burning process. Please help me.
Thank you for your time.
ANSWER: I would be happy to help you backup your Age of Mythology game. This game should not be that hard to back up considering I backed up all my Sims 2 games and they are SafeDisc 4.6, which is a higher version of SafeDisc. The only software you really need is Alcohol 120% to back up all your PC games. I will give you step by step instructions on how to back up your PC game.
2. Restart computer after you install the latest version.
3. When you start Alcohol 120% go to image making wizard. Select the drive that your PC game is in. Near the bottom their will be a box that says data type. Change this setting to SafeDisc /3/4. If it doesn't have this setting, then just switch it back to data type. Then click next. Then you name the file and then click start to create a CD image. Because of the SafeDisc protection, you are going to get a lot of CD errors, just ignore them, it is perfectly normal and won't effect the back up image at all. You just have to wait a while until the game is completed because their will be a lot of errors. This is because of the weak sectors that SafeDisc has, these errors will not effect the CD image at all. You are not going to have an actual physical CD because with Safe Disc, you need a burner that supports EFM writing. When your software is done you will have two images.
4. Save the images to a CD/DVD so you have a backup copy of your image. You will have two images, don't pay attention to the images that are like 32 kilobytes. Your main image will be like 300-650 megabytes, this is the image you need to mount. If the game is on more then one CD, then make sure you have enough virtual drivers for them, it makes it easier. For example if your game is 3 CD's make sure you have at least 3 virtual drives. Just go to the option that says virtual drive and select the number you need. Now mount all the images for your game. The small images that are in the kilobytes don't matter. Now run the image drive that has your installation CD on. It will not install the entire game.
5. keep the play disc mounted, now you can just click on the short cut to play. If the game says please insert disc, which is shouldn't because it is only SafeDisc 2.7, then you need to download a No CD patch. If the game says to insert disc 1, which it shouldn't then contact me and I would be glad to find the patch for you. I believe that only the first CD for Age of mythology is copyrighted, so the second CD should burn a whole lot faster. I hope I was of great help to you. If you have any questions just contact me again and I will be glad to help you.

QUESTION: I have one more question. What are the general settings of Alcohol 120 that I should know how to configure, so I can backup any type of game. This way, I won't have to e-mail you for instructions on how to back up each game that I have. Thank you for your time.
Answer The default settings should be fine. You can also select general protected CD as the data type and it will pretty much copy any game accept star force CD protection, but that shouldn't be a problem because not that many games use it. If its Star Force, then you need to select that option. If your not sure how to backup a game, just do a google search and check the forums, someones bond to need help with the same game. Some games may require you to download a patch before you can play them on your PC because when you start the game it tells you to insert CD even if you have the image mounted. These patches are free and don't cost anything. Once You would go to my computer, C drive or where your game is installed, select program folders, then select the folder that your game is in. Now just drag and drop the NO CD patch. It will then ask if you would like to replace the file with this file, select yes. Make sure you did not start the game right away because if its in the computer process the patch may not work, so just restart computer and drag and drop patch into the install directory. This software can also back up DVD protected PC games and PS2 games. Here is where you can get CD patches for your games. http://gamecopyworld.com/
