If you require any shareware or freeware software for your pc or want to know whats the best shareware or freeware in any category i can help. From anti-virus software to peer to peer sharing programs to online games to pc game mods/patches to word processing software. I will find you good freeware/shareware software thats virus free, lag free and hopefully cost free. Note: i can find you the software but i cannot find serial numbers for shareware for illegal purposes.

Experience
i have spent a few years searching all sites and trying all sorts and freeware/shareware software to aid me in computer security, music converting, pc game patching and mods and even word processing.

Education/Credentials
i did ICT in high school for 5 years, which was all about database software, then continued into A level computing for a year, which was antivirus software and programming.

Shareware/Freeware - A good utilty to monitor computer usage

Expert: gary - 8/26/2008

Question
Is there a good minimal-resource use program to monitor the amount of time i have been using the computer daily?

Please note that i just want a daily record of the amount of time i have been using the comp, Nothing extra like history/keystroke logs/website history or such.

I have tried out the following, so do not include them in your recommendations:
Userhealth 1.3.6:
-Resource intensive (uses 4-5 MB running memory)
-Is basicallly for alarm/ 'take a break' notice alert
-Has a feature of counting key strokes, i am not comfortable with.

TimeTrack 0.4
-Was small, just 37Kb installer BUT
-Avast reported trojan in installer as a "keyboard hooker"
so i cancelled install
-Have not used it therefore cant comment

System Uptime Monitor 5.0
-Did not show any indication that history/log is available
-Again, a resource intensive program
-Appears to be made by a amateur, seems not very reliable

Thanks in advance.

Answer
hi thanks for your question.

Unfortunatly for some reason software like this seems to favour shareware because this sort of program is ideal for IT management/companies to monitor employees.

firstly timetrack 0.4 could be seen as a false positive as avtivirus programs will detect any keyloggers you put on your computer to monitor children etc.

there are 2 programs i know of you can try. theres a very basic one called pc usage viewer 1.0 that doesnt run as a background process and just tracks login-logout times. to download its 488.5kb.

The other program is called manictime 1.0.0.46, this can use simple stats to show overall activity and can be used to tag usage on individual activities such as word processing and web browsing. However might be a bit OTT for what you want and might use a big resource.

sorry couldnt be more helpful.
