I am interested in using a download manager on my PC so I can pause large downloads when I switch off my PC, and so I can accelerate some downloads. I currently know of two free programs: free download manager and download accelerator. Do you know if there is a way to completely disable Bittorrent in them, and are they completely free of malware?

hi thanks for your question.

i dont think there is a way to disable bittorrent completely however you are asked on install whether you want to use bittorent. If not use options and see what is under bittorrent tab.

Download accelerator has been known to contain adaware (many advitisements and pop-ups for there shareware upgrade) also crashes have been know when downloading.

free download manager is basic but still more hassel than a normal download. its malware free.

download managers are only good to be able to pause large downloads as they slow pc when downloading due to being a task and download rate is slower than downloading from a fast broswer like firefox or opera. download managers also dont protect you from malware in what you download like browsers do as its a seperate program.

free download manager does have highest rating and recommendations in its field though a good antivirus and antispyware program will come in handy.
