Subject: Sheep unable to get up

Question
I've read several academic articles claiming that sheep cannot get up when on
their back. Do you know why that is? I have been trying to find out why sheep
cannot get up when on their back for hours, with no luck.

Answer
hi joceline,
i have never seen that happen before, but it can happen in bloated condition of rumen where the pain is so sever the roll on their backs and ultimately die if bloat is not relieved else in a perfectly normal sheep they  do have a fair chance of getting to their normal posture after lying on their back accidentally.
