Question I just acquired a ram and a ewe,Suffolk breed. The person I obtained them from was feeding them cracked corn.Is this enough nutrition.I give the corn, hay and all the grass they can eat,but was interested in nutrition because the ewe is bred.I want healthy babies.I know about goats just not sheep. Any other requirement for sheep as far as mineral and vaccines, worming, etc. would be appreciated as well.
Answer this will require the date of insemination or probable close date of breeding/tupping in case its more than 3 months supplement it with cracked corn and ground nut cake or other protein supplement at 2% of body weight.that is luecerne,or soya meal etc. also check if its vaccinated for entero toxemia , as far as minerals are concerned you will have to check with the soil testing of grazing pastures to check if its deficient in trace minerals , supplement it with calcium or mineral licks , deworming can be done in late pregnancy with albendazole.
