Question
QUESTION: Well this isn't really related to just shih tzus breed only, it probably happens to other dogs as well. I have a 1 and half year old shih tzu and I found this greenish pus bump on one of her legs, my question is... is this a bug bite? I would understand because she was outside in her dog house. if not, what could it possibly be?

ANSWER: Yes Mary, it could be a bug bit that has become infected.  You can clean it with some hydrogen peroxide and warm water.  Just dab a cotton ball with peroxide and then rinse with some warm water.  Put some neosporin ointment or triple antibiotic ointment on the area 2 x per day.

If it doesn't look better in 2 days, then please call the vet for a visit.  Also, it the area gets very red and HOT, please call the vet.

I hope this helps and it clears up soon!

QUESTION: ok I just got a clear look at her and its on her stomach, after cleaning it, there is a red bump after the pus was cleaned off, is that still a sign of a bug bite?

Answer
Hi:  Well, it can be a foreign object under the skin such as, sand, dirt, or even a stinger.  Also, it can just be inflammation from the bug bite.  You can put some neosporin on it tonight and see what it looks like tomorrow.

Write back tomorrow and let me know how it is looking.... Bigger?
Red? Cool?  Hot?

Ok
