Question
QUESTION: Hi Mike, I have finished a Flash website for a friend and am ready to upload.
My friend has heard that Flash sites don't search to well and has been very
happy with the amount of traffic on his old HTML site.

I have seen some sites where the visitor is given an option of choosing the
Flash site or the HTML site.
How do I go about doing that?

Many thanks.
Regards
Phil Buckle.

ANSWER: you make an html page called index.html and in there you put links to a flash site and an html site, normally with he sites in seperate folders. we make an html folder containing an html site and a flash folder containing a flash site and direct automatically, but like i sadi you could easily make a one page with text and links to either site.

QUESTION: Thanks Mike.
One big question, will this aforementioned HTML page have any effect on the
original sites search-ability?
His provider...........who built the original sit,e is doing his best to scare my
friend off using a 100% Flash site.
The provider is charging him around $400 a year to have his site "optimized"
for search engines" This does NOT include any advertising with Google etc at
all.
When I view his site in source I can see nothing more than the ordinary tags
that I see on every other site.    http://www.leopegoli.com.au/
Can there be some magic they are working or is it all hogwash?
My friend is very happy with the amount of enquiries he receives from his
site.
That's why he is worried about changing.

Anyway I should reiterate my first question.

Will putting up this HTML page with the links have any effect on his old sites
search-ability?
Thanks Mike.

Answer
it will change things a little , but as long as you just move the html into a folder, keeping the site the same, you shoul dbe fine. search engines just need links to follow. you will need to look through all the html and make sure the links work after placing it in a folder.

the optimization sounds suspicious to me. getting your site up on google involves alot more than meta tags. it needs links and content. unless they are providing these you are getting ripped off.
