Question
QUESTION: I am taking our 17month Chessie to his first show this month, he isn't going to be a show dog but we thought it would be nice to take him to our local County show. I want to do this properly and would like a little advise as to which leash would be best for him and what the show standing position is for a hunting dog, should his feet be level with shoulders etc.?
Thank you
Wendy

ANSWER: Wendy
Congratulations on your chessie but if the show you are going to is a AKC sanctioned show dogs not entered aren't allowed. I know that some people do this and if you do don't be offended if you are asked to take him home. It's not the clubs rules it's AKC rules that the clubs have to follow.

The "stacked" position is yes front feet level with shounders back feet behind body with hocks perpendicular to the ground.

Best of luck!!!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes it is AKC sanctioned are boy is registered (there are also classes for non AKC), we are going to show him,I didn't make that very clear, do you have a suggestion for the best show leash to use?
Thank you

Answer
Wendy,
Get the chain kind with the nylon leash attached. Make sure the chain isn't too long or too wide. You can buy good ones at the dog shows. You don't want a big clumsy lead just keep that in mind and be sure to put it on correctly. The chain should slide from the top not from the throat.

Have fun and much success!

PS: I get black because it goes with everything I wear.
