Expert: Michele Gauthier Date: 6/27/2005 Subject: how to get a former "show dog" to urninate and deficate on leash
Question Borzoi
Answer Hi Janice, I really didn't get enough explanation from you about the dog.
I know one time when at Westminster a friend had an Afghan that wouldn't go. A trick that was used was putting a paper match up the rectum and the sulphur in the match encouraged a bowel movement and that worked.
I would just continue to take him or her out on the lead until you have some luck. Don't let him go anywhere else but outside. After he goes give him a treat. The big thing is going to be the urniation. And if you can get him to urinate then half of your problem is over with. Dogs can hold urine for up to about 5 days. So don't let him go any place else. Just make him go on the leash.
I hope I have helped you just a little. Just try and have a little patience and believe me he will go. Just remember you have to be just as dead set on him going on the leash as he is dead set on not going. He can only hold so long. Michele
