Question I have a rose of Sharon bush that was transplanted 3 years ago. It gets partial sun. Every spring it gets load of buds, some that even open enough to see the color but never open to flowers. What can I do? The tree keeps growing and gets bigger with lots of leaves but no flowers.I appreciate any suggestions.
Answer Debbie,
I would recommend that if you are using any type of fertilizer on the plant that it be stopped. It sounds like the Hibiscus is putting too much energy towards leaf growth and not enough towards flower production. Use low nitrogen fertilizers to shift the balance back to flower production.
I would also recommend that you prune off some of the flower buds to force the plant to redirect it's energy into opening the remaining buds.
