Hi Michelle,
I have a few pieces of Patrician 1914 and would like to add to my collection.
I can't figure out which knife I have as it seems to measure 9 1/2" and I
have not been able to match that size to any I've found on line. The handle
feels light so I am guessing it is hollow, but I don't have another to
compare. I have 3 knives and would like at least one more to have service
for 4.
2nd question: Does the 1914 pattern have a more ornate dinner fork that
has a small ring similar to the knives?
Lastly, can you tell me the difference between the 1914 pattern and the later
pattern (year?). Perhaps I have labeled my pattern with the wrong year?
Thanks so much!
Sara
Answer Hello Sara. You've got the right year. The 1975 pattern is much different with a rounded end and beading along the shaft and end.
I'm not familiar enough with this pattern to tell you if there is a more ornate dinner fork, but I would doubt it. This is a simple pattern, so all of the pieces should be modest in design.
Now as for the length of your knives, I see what you're talking about regarding the hollow handles and the length. There are solid handled knives that are 9 1/2" long, but I don't see any hollow ones in this length. It is possible your blades were replaced somewhere along the way (BTW, your blade style is called Old French).
So it looks like you're going to either get a hollow knife with a blade that's 1/4" longer than what you have (which is the route I'd take - no one will notice), or get one the same size with the solid handle. You should be able to get a few knives very cheaply on eBay, so you could inexpensively get some and see which you prefer.
