Silver and Flatware - Rogers bros fork 1847

Expert: Michelle Lieberman - 5/15/2009

Question
I have a fork marked Rogers bros. A ( round symbol) that has 3 tines with barbs on the 2 outside tines. It is 7.5 inches long. The handle is flat and somewhat plain. Is it sterling? and what type of fork is it? and does it have any value?

Answer
Hello Mike.  No, it's not sterling, it's silverplated.  Sterling will be marked either Sterling or 925/1000.

It sounds to me like pickle fork.  As far as value goes, it's hard to say without knowing which pattern it is, but unusual serving pieces still have value.  Your description of "somewhat plain" though, would tend to indicate it's not one of the very collectible ornate patterns.  Assuming it's a run-of-the-mill pattern, it may have a value of $15 to $25.

Regards,
Michelle
