Question HI Michelle,
I have a flatware set from Reed and Barton sterling in the Lark pattern ( 1960 ).It consists of (8) 9" dinner knives, (8) 7 1/2" dinner forks, (8) 7 1/8" salad forks, and (7) 6 1/4" teaspoons. They are in very good condition, with only light scratching. Can you tell me what the estimated value would be,if I was to choose to sell it to a dealer ? Also, I am looking to purchase 8 place spoons in the same pattern so that I have a full dinner service, but have no idea what a fair price would be per spoon.
Answer Hello Louis. Your set has a value in the $600 to $800 range, but this is a retail price, not what you'd get from a dealer. A dealer will pay you as little as he can get away with as he's got to turn it around and sell it for a profit himself. A good rule of thumb for a dealer is to pay less than half the retail price.
Soup spoons go for about $40 to $45 each. I do see a regular dealer on eBay selling them right now for $30.99, which is quite a good price.
