Question
I just cleaned out my mom's house and found my grandmother's complete sets of silverware-pat 12/28,1915
warranted 12DWT and Rogers Bros 1847 xs tripleand silverplate Holmes Edward inlaid and a knife with an Eagle carrying a swastika. Are any of these of value? Can they be cleaned up if they are black in areas?
Thank you

Answer
Hello Joyce.  It sounds as if you have all silverplate there, and the value is going to be minimal compared to sterling flatware.  Without knowing which patterns you have, it's impossible to give an accurate value.  I can tell you that most silverplated sets with a service for 12 retail in the $100 to $250 range, provided they're in excellent condition.

I hope that helps.

Michelle
