Silver and Flatware - vintage bottle opener

Expert: Michelle Lieberman - 6/19/2009

Question
Michelle,

As a follow up to my question on the sterling bottle opener I have since discovered a maker's mark of John Hasslebring and learned that it is not wood but a stag handle ( appears to be an antler or foot). The piece is in excellent condition and the sterling is marked 45 on the neck. I have also learned how to send a photo so here it is. Any thoughts on its value?

Mike

Answer
Hello Mike.  I'm impressed you figured out a John Hasselbring mark - he's one of the more obsure makers.  Your bottle opener is the type of thing that is more popular with breweriana and corkscrew collectors than it is to silver collectors.  It would fetch $20 to $30 to a collector.

Regards,
Michelle
