Silver and Flatware - 3 Sterling Pieces

Expert: Michelle Lieberman - 8/24/2009

Question
Hi Michelle~ I am considering selling these 3 pieces: a Watson 'Chicago' Jelly Spoon; a D&H 'Labors of Cupid' Strawberry Fork (I believe from original issue-it has Mauser Mfg.as well as D&H mark); and an Unger Bros.'Douvaine' winged Cheese Scoop. All are in excellent condition and all markings are clear. I would like to know if the jelly spoon is a single issue souvenir spoon or part of a set, and the value of each piece. Have attached front image and have rear stem and markings images should you need them. Thanks so much~

Answer
Hello Ruth.  Thank you for the other photo.  Ok, let me tackle these one at a time.

First with the Chicago jelly, I really don't have enough information about souvenir flatware to give you an answer as to whether it was made as part of a set or not.  Souvenir flatware is a collecting world unto itself.  I would suspect, though, that it probably was part of a larger set, probably of all smaller-type serving pieces.  I'd put a value on it of around $35.

Now I've got to tell you you're throwing me off with the Labors of Cupid fork and the Mauser thing.  There's no relationship between the two companies that I know of.  (I'd love to see the marks, if you'd care to post another pic).  I also ran across something yesterday that said the original name for the pattern was 1900.  I'm just tossing that in for information.  Anyway, value of your strawberry fork is around $60.

The Douvaine cheese scoop is the gem in this group.  $200 to $250 would be right for this.

Best regards,
Michelle

PS - I'm going to kick back your other Q (the one with the other pic) as a duplicate.  Don't be offended if you see it rejected.
