Question
I have a set of antler? handled of stainless flatwear of 8 forks and 8 knives purchased years ago from a Boston company called Shreve, Crump and Low.  Can you give me any information about this set including if the handles are indeed antler? and nay history of the company? And value?
Thanks
Christina

Answer
Hello Christina.

Ok, I take it these are silver mounted, with John Hasselbring's mark?  John Hasselbring aka the Hasselbring Silver Co. was in business in Brooklyn from c. 1890 until about 1955 when it was purchased by the Crown Silver Co.  Crown proceeded to go out of business just five years later.

Antler and horn are common materials for handles.  Antler has a nubby surface and horn is usually smooth.  Estimating value without seeing it is tough, but something in the $150 to $250 range would be correct.

Michelle
