Question
QUESTION: I have my mother's silver set, 12 place settings, but 8 of the knives are missing. My mother lived in Pennsylvania before she married, so it should be from the East coast.
On the back is JE Caldwell & CA  and Sterling ?XX?
I thik my mother said it was a King Edward pattern...
Can you help? If I cannot get the same pattern, a similar one could be used. Can send a photo if helpful.

Nancy Stockinger

ANSWER: Hello Nancy.

I'm not certain what it is you're asking.  Do you need me to identify the pattern?

Yes, please send a photo of the pattern.  Most likely, Caldwell was the retailer of the set.

Regards,
Michelle

QUESTION: I need to find 8 additional knives to be able to use the set. I have to identify the pattern to look for it in used silverware, or to identify a similar pattern that is available if it is not. Picture of the fork is attached. Caldwell was certainly the manufacturer as the name is engraved on the back.

Nancy

Answer
It was a common practice for retailers to mark silver with their own names on goods they did not make.  In this case, this is exactly what happened.

Your flatware was made by Dominick & Haff.  It's the King pattern and dates back to 1880.

There are many, many silver sellers online.  Now that you have the correct information, you should be able to find knives in this pattern.

Regards,
Michelle
