I have a Walter Oxley Sheffield Special Plate No. 8950 including a cigar/cigarette holder.  The plate holds a small coffee cup No. 6411 and shot glass.  Can you tell me something if it holds any value.  Many thanks

Hi, Cheryl.

I researched this company a few months ago when another questioner asked me about a piece. I could not find much information about the company nor could I find pieces for sale or that had been sold.

Since "sterling" is not indicated by the marks on the bottom, it must be made of silver. The "extra plate" may mean that a thicker layer of silver was applied. However, the layer is till extremely thin. Therefore, the value probably is not great. On the other hand, having a set like this with all pieces intact might add some value.

This is purely a guess but I'd say the value is around US$ 15 to 25.

Sorry I could not help more.

Best wishes,

Silver and Flatware
